Pregnant individuals eligible for a health insurance plan may enroll at any time during pregnancy, along with any family members eligible through their relationship to the pregnant individual

Coverage must begin no later than the first day of the month in which the pregnancy is medically verified, though the pregnant individual may choose a later start date during the pregnancy

Insurers offering group health insurance must notify individuals of this special enrollment period at or before their initial opportunity to enroll

Applies to health benefit plans, self-insured governmental plans (cities, villages, towns, school districts), preferred provider plans, defined network plans, and cooperative health plans

Takes effect on the first day of the 4th month after publication, with applicability beginning January 1 of the following year for most plans
