Motorboats with enclosed accommodation compartments (containing sleeping areas, galley, and head) must be equipped with a functioning marine carbon monoxide detection system and have a CO warning sticker affixed in plain view.

Each sleeping accommodation must contain or be located within 10 feet of a functioning marine CO detection system certified by a nationally recognized testing laboratory to UL Standards.

Sale of new motorboats with enclosed accommodation compartments is prohibited unless equipped with the required CO detection system and warning sticker.

Department of Natural Resources must provide printed CO safety information to all motorboat registrants, plus a warning sticker to cabin motorboat owners, at no additional cost.

Second and subsequent violations carry a forfeiture penalty of up to $300.
