School boards and independent charter schools would be prohibited from serving food containing brominated vegetable oil, potassium bromate, propylparaben, azodicarbonamide, or red dye 3 in free or reduced-price meals under the National School Lunch Program or federal School Breakfast Program.

The prohibition applies only to meals directly provided by schools; private vendors may still serve food containing these ingredients on school premises or at school-sponsored activities.

The bill creates new statute section 118.073 and amends section 119.04(1) to extend the requirements to first-class city school districts (Milwaukee).

Effective date is July 1, 2027.
