Sheriffs must comply with detainers and administrative warrants from the federal Department of Homeland Security for individuals held in county jails for criminal offenses, and must seek federal reimbursement for associated costs.

Sheriffs must annually certify compliance to the Department of Revenue by July 1; failure to certify results in a 15% reduction to the county's shared revenue payments for the following year.

Sheriffs must maintain records of individuals verified as unlawfully present and the types of crimes for which they were jailed, with the Department of Justice compiling this data into reports to the legislature every 6 months beginning January 1, 2027.

Law enforcement agencies and officers are shielded from criminal and civil liability for actions taken to comply with these immigration verification and detainer requirements.
