School districts are prohibited from being members of interscholastic athletic associations unless those associations elect to be governed by Wisconsin's public records and open meetings laws.

Interscholastic athletic associations are defined as nonprofit associations or nonstock nonprofit corporations that coordinate athletic events for students in grades 9-12 in public schools.

Associations that elect coverage under these transparency laws may withhold records concerning individual referees.

Records concerning individual pupils maintained by covered associations are exempt from public inspection or copying requirements.

The bill amends statutes 19.32, 19.36, 19.82, and creates new section 118.1335.
