Courts must appoint a guardian ad litem (GAL) for minor children when a grandparent, great-grandparent, stepparent, or person with a parent-like relationship petitions for visitation rights under s. 767.43

GAL appointment becomes mandatory once the petitioner establishes legal standing to file for visitation, rather than being discretionary

Creates new statute section 767.407 (1) (bm) to codify this requirement

Applies to petitions filed on or after the effective date of the act
