Health insurance policies and self-insured governmental health plans must cover home test kits for sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV, along with laboratory processing costs

Covered home test kits must be recommended by the CDC or U.S. Preventive Services Task Force and either FDA-approved/cleared or developed by a laboratory meeting federal quality standards

Coverage requires the test to be deemed medically necessary or appropriate and ordered by a health care provider or furnished through a standing order

Applies to disability insurance policies, preferred provider plans, defined network plans, and self-insured plans of the state, counties, cities, villages, towns, and school districts

Takes effect on the first day of the 4th month after publication, with delayed application for plans affected by collective bargaining agreements
