Political subdivisions may authorize law enforcement to impound vehicles used in reckless driving violations (s. 346.62) at officer discretion when issuing a citation or making an arrest, removing the previous requirement that the owner have an unpaid prior reckless driving forfeiture

Vehicles may be held until all reasonable impoundment costs (towing, transportation, storage) and any outstanding fines or forfeitures owed by the owner are fully paid

Law enforcement must make reasonable efforts to determine if an impounded vehicle was reported stolen and attempt to contact the owner if so

Stolen vehicles must be returned to their owners without any fees or charges; unclaimed stolen vehicles may be disposed of after 60 days using abandoned vehicle procedures

Unclaimed impounded vehicles may be disposed of following abandoned vehicle procedures if they remain unclaimed more than 90 days after disposition of the charge
