Beginning July 1, 2027, community-based residential facilities (CBRFs) may only use "memory care" in their name, advertising, or communications if they serve individuals with irreversible dementia such as Alzheimer's disease

Administrators and resident care staff must complete initial training covering dementia introduction, person-centered care, effective communication, behavioral interventions as alternatives to medication, and supporting independence and quality of life

Annual continuing education for administrators and resident care staff must include refresher training on all five dementia care subject areas

CBRFs already providing memory care services before July 1, 2027 must achieve full compliance with the new requirements by that date to continue using the memory care designation

"Resident care staff" includes employees who supervise residents, manage medications, provide personal care, or conduct programming, but excludes food service, maintenance, laundry, housekeeping, transportation, security, and clerical staff
