Joint resolution honoring George Meyer, former Wisconsin DNR Secretary (1993-2001), who passed away December 10, 2025, at age 78

During his DNR tenure, the state acquired 142,000 acres of recreational land, reestablished Wisconsin's wild elk population, implemented the nation's first mercury emission regulations, and cleaned up 12,000 contaminated sites

Championed the Public Trust Doctrine to protect waterways and helped develop Wisconsin's wetland protection regulations; negotiated over 40 agreements with the Great Lakes Indian Fish and Wildlife Commission on tribal treaty rights

After state service, served as first executive director of the Wisconsin Wildlife Federation and founded the Wisconsin Conservation Leadership Corps to mentor future conservation leaders

Inducted into the Wisconsin Conservation Hall of Fame in 2018 and received the National Wildlife Federation's lifetime achievement award in 2025
