Wisconsin Legislature honors Anna Mae Robertson, a Milwaukee resident who passed away at age 101 and was one of the last surviving members of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion (Six Triple Eight)

Robertson enlisted in the Women's Army Corps in 1943, joining the only all-Black, all-female battalion to serve overseas during World War II

The battalion cleared a backlog of over 17 million pieces of mail in England in a record-breaking three months, working around the clock in eight-hour shifts starting in early 1945

Robertson received individual service medals in 2014, and her battalion was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in 2025

After returning to the U.S. in 1946, Robertson settled in Milwaukee and worked as a nurse's aide while raising a family
