Wisconsin Legislature honors Jerry Apps for his contributions to preserving the state's agricultural heritage and rural history

Apps authored more than 50 books on Wisconsin history and rural life, including 23 books with the Wisconsin Historical Society Press, covering topics such as barns, cheesemaking, one-room schools, and horse-powered farming

Career included serving as a county extension agent in Green Lake and Brown Counties and as a professor at the University of Wisconsin College of Agriculture, where he taught thousands of students

Created seven documentaries on rural life with PBS Wisconsin, winning a regional Emmy Award for "A Farm Winter" and two Eric Sevareid Awards for Merit

Recognition includes the Distinguished Service Award from UW-Madison College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, fellowship in the Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters, and induction into the 4-H Hall of Fame
