WRS annuitants rehired by participating employers may continue receiving their retirement or disability annuity for up to 60 months (non-consecutive) without suspension, provided they waited at least 75 days after terminating employment and had no pre-arrangement to return

Participating employers must pay the Department of Employee Trust Funds an amount equal to what employer contributions would have been for each rehired annuitant who elects not to suspend their annuity; payments are deposited into the employer reserve account

Annuitants who choose not to suspend and not become active WRS participants are ineligible for group insurance benefits and cannot use new service time for WRS purposes

Annuitants who opt to become active WRS participating employees again receive full group insurance benefits and accumulate additional creditable service

Repeals obsolete provisions related to WRS annuitants returning to work during the COVID-19 public health emergency declared March 12, 2020 (Executive Order 72)
