Expands existing protections for police and fire animals to include search and rescue dogs trained by state or nationally recognized agencies to locate lost individuals and disaster victims

Prohibits frightening, intimidating, threatening, abusing, harassing, striking, shoving, kicking, or using a dangerous weapon against search and rescue dogs

Violations carry a Class B forfeiture; knowing violations constitute a Class A misdemeanor

Intentional violations causing injury to the dog result in a Class I felony; causing death results in a Class H felony

Courts must require convicted violators to pay restitution for veterinary expenses or replacement animal costs
