When a pupil withdraws mid-year from a private school participating in a parental choice program, the Special Needs Scholarship Program, or an independent charter school and enrolls in a public school district, DPI must redirect any remaining per-pupil payments to the enrolling school district

Currently, DPI pays the annual per-pupil amount to private choice schools and independent charter schools in four equal installments throughout the school year

Applies to withdrawals from the Milwaukee Parental Choice Program, Racine Parental Choice Program, Wisconsin Parental Choice Program, Special Needs Scholarship Program, and independent charter schools

Effective date: July 1, 2026
