Noncompete agreements for medical practitioners (advanced practice registered nurses, advanced practice nurse prescribers, physicians, physician assistants, and psychologists) are declared illegal, void, and unenforceable if they prohibit working as a medical practitioner for more than 24 consecutive months after the first day of employment

Noncompete clauses for medical practitioners become automatically unenforceable if the employer terminates the practitioner's employment for any reason

Current Wisconsin law allows noncompete agreements only when restrictions are reasonably necessary to protect the employer; this bill creates a specific carve-out establishing stricter limits for medical practitioners

Applies to noncompete agreements entered into, extended, modified, or renewed on or after the effective date of the act

Takes effect the day after publication, with certain provisions coordinated with the effective date of Assembly Bill 257 (related to advanced practice registered nurse licensing)
