Beginning July 1, 2027, community-based residential facilities (CBRFs) may only use "memory care" in their name, advertising, or communications if they serve individuals with irreversible dementia such as Alzheimer's disease.

Administrators and resident care staff must complete initial and annual training covering dementia introduction, person-centered care, effective communication, behavioral interventions as alternatives to medication, and supporting independence and quality of life.

"Resident care staff" includes employees who supervise residents, manage medications, provide personal care, or conduct activity programming, but excludes food service, maintenance, housekeeping, transportation, security, and clerical staff.

CBRFs currently using the "memory care" designation must achieve full compliance with the new requirements by July 1, 2027 to continue operating under that designation.
