Proposes a constitutional amendment to Article VI, Section 4(3)(c) of the Wisconsin Constitution regarding county jail custody authority

County sheriffs would retain custody of the county jail and its inmates as the default, codifying authority previously established by Wisconsin Supreme Court decisions dating back to 1870

County boards of supervisors would gain explicit authority to delegate jail custody to another public officer or public entity of their choosing

Requires adoption by two successive legislatures and ratification by voters before taking effect; this is the first consideration by the 2025 legislature

Must be published for 3 months prior to the next general election and referred to the next elected legislature for second consideration
