Wisconsin Legislature honors Anna Mae Robertson, a Milwaukee resident who passed away at age 101, for her service as a member of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion ("Six Triple Eight") during World War II

Robertson enlisted in the Women's Army Corps in 1943 and joined the only all-Black, all-female battalion to serve overseas, arriving in England in early 1945

The battalion cleared a backlog of over 17 million pieces of mail in three months by working around-the-clock eight-hour shifts, a mission critical to maintaining soldier morale

Robertson received individual service medals in 2014, and her battalion was formally presented with the Congressional Gold Medal in 2025

After returning to the U.S. in 1946, Robertson settled in Milwaukee and worked as a nurse's aide while raising a family
