Wisconsin Legislature celebrates the U.S. Navy's 250th birthday on October 13, 2025, marking the anniversary of the Continental Congress vote on October 13, 1775, to outfit two sailing vessels

Over 330,000 active duty sailors currently serve in the U.S. Navy under core values of honor, courage, and commitment

Wisconsin's shipbuilding contributions include submarine chasers (Leathem D. Smith Shipbuilding Company), tank landing ships (Christy Corporation), and current production of Freedom-class littoral combat ships and Constellation-class guided-missile frigates

At least 30 U.S. Navy ships have been named after Wisconsin and its cities, counties, landmarks, and people, including two battleships named USS Wisconsin (BB-9 and BB-64)
