School zones now explicitly include private schools and public charter schools, with a 15 mph speed limit during school hours and recess periods

County boards of education, public charter school governing boards, or private school governing bodies can formally request the Division of Highways to expand school zones up to 125 feet along adjacent roads within 90 days of the request

Speed violations on controlled access highways or interstate highways at 10 mph or less above the limit result in a maximum $5 fine plus court costs, and convictions may not be recorded by the Division of Motor Vehicles (except for commercial driver's license holders)

School zone speeding violations carry fines of $100-$500, with potential jail time of up to 6 months for exceeding the limit by 15 mph or more in the presence of children
