Public school and public charter school employees with valid concealed handgun permits would be authorized to carry concealed firearms while in or on the grounds of any public primary or secondary school in West Virginia

Current law prohibits possessing firearms on school buses, school grounds, and at school-sponsored functions, with exceptions for law enforcement, certain officials, and approved programs

Existing exceptions already allow persons 21 or older with concealed carry permits to possess handguns in vehicles in school parking lots if properly stored out of view

Violations of the weapons-on-school-grounds prohibition remain a felony punishable by 2-10 years imprisonment, up to $5,000 fine, or both
