Allows volunteer and part-volunteer fire companies and departments to use funds from the Municipal Pensions and Protection Fund and Fire Protection Fund to employ or contract with certified firefighters

Requires county commission approval before a volunteer or part-volunteer fire department can spend these funds on hiring firefighters

County commission must first determine that the fire company is understaffed and that the expenditure addresses a legitimate staffing need before granting written approval

Maintains existing requirements that state funds be kept in a dedicated bank account separate from other revenue sources and restricts their use to authorized purposes
