Expands assault and battery protections to include athletic participants (players, coaches, assistant coaches, team members) in addition to officials like referees and umpires

Establishes mandatory minimum penalties for assault on athletic officials/participants: fine of at least $250 (up to $500) and jail time of at least 5 days (up to 6 months)

Increases battery penalties with mandatory minimums: fine of at least $500 (up to $1,000) and jail time of at least 10 days (up to 12 months)

Authorizes county boards of education and higher education governing boards to ban persons convicted under this section from all state school or school-sponsored sports events for a minimum of 365 days

Violation of the ban subjects the person to criminal trespass prosecution if they refuse to leave a school sports event after receiving written notification
