County board of education members shall receive compensation at a rate of $260 per meeting attended, changing from a discretionary "may" receive "not to exceed" $260 to a mandatory payment at that fixed rate

Boards may vote to approve a lower compensation rate than $260, and participation in such votes is explicitly exempt from conflict of interest statutes (§6B-2-5 and §61-10-15)

Board members remain limited to compensation for no more than 40 regular meetings per fiscal year, plus up to 12 meetings for multicounty vocational center administrative councils

Up to 5 additional paid meetings are allowed for special activities including excess levy elections, construction bond hearings, school closure hearings, personnel hearings, student expulsion hearings, and disaster situations

Members in default of training requirements cannot receive compensation until the default is cured, but may recover back pay without interest if training is completed within three months
