Requires optometrists applying for licensure after May 1, 2025, to meet ophthalmic laser certification requirements, including passing the Laser and Surgical Procedures Examination from the National Board of Examiners in Optometry

Removes the previous prohibition on optometrists using therapeutic lasers and eliminates the requirement that procedures be taught at 50% of accredited optometry schools before being authorized

Establishes training standards for laser certification through accredited optometry schools or board-approved post-graduate programs, with mandatory proficiency assessments and adherence to OSHA guidelines
