Sheriffs serving after July 1, 2025, would receive an additional $1,000 in annual salary for each year of prior law enforcement experience with the State of West Virginia or any of its political subdivisions

The salary increase applies only to sheriffs who have documented law enforcement experience before becoming sheriff

Current base salaries for sheriffs range from $48,661 (Class X counties) to $56,793 (Class I counties) under the existing 2022 pay schedule

The bill amends §7-7-4 of the West Virginia Code, which governs compensation for elected county officials including sheriffs, county clerks, circuit clerks, assessors, and prosecuting attorneys
