Law enforcement officers, chiefs, and officials in West Virginia who honorably separate from their agency or end their elected term must be offered the opportunity to purchase their issued service handgun at cost

Employing agencies may only sell the service handgun if the officer is separating honorably and has no pending disciplinary complaints, investigations, or actions

Agencies are prohibited from selling service handguns to officers who are legally barred from possessing firearms, reasonably believed to be mentally incapacitated, or believed to pose a danger to others

"Handgun" is defined as a pistol or revolver under existing West Virginia code definitions

Effective July 11, 2025 (90 days after passage on April 12, 2025)
