Catherine Blake lost two sons in World War I: Edward Leo Blake, who perished when the U.S.S. Cyclops was lost in March 1918, and William Thomas Blake, killed in action on October 21, 1918, during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive in France

Catherine Blake was one of the few Double Gold Star Mothers in America at the time and is believed to be the only Double Gold Star Mother in Marshall County history

Post 46, Blake Brothers American Legion in Benwood, West Virginia is named in honor of her two sons

Directs the Division of Highways to erect signs with bold and prominent letters identifying the roadway
