Appointed members of the West Virginia State Board of Education are prohibited from running for or holding other public office, serving on political party executive committees, being a delegate to national political conventions, or soliciting political contributions for partisan candidates

Board members may still make personal campaign contributions, attend political fundraisers, volunteer unpaid on campaigns, endorse candidates, and attend county, state, or national political party conventions

Service on other unpaid boards is permitted as long as the board's primary scope is not related to public schools

Persons convicted of offenses involving crimes against minors (including sexual abuse, exploitation, and child abuse) are permanently barred from serving on the State Board of Education

The law takes effect July 10, 2025 (90 days after passage on April 11, 2025)
