Classroom teachers who joined the Teachers Retirement System on or after July 1, 2015, may sell up to 10 unused personal leave days back to their county board of education at the end of each school year

Compensation for sold leave days equals 80% of the daily rate paid to substitute teachers with a bachelor's degree and 10 years of experience

Payment for sold leave days must be made on or before June 30 of the school year

Teachers who sell their unused personal leave days permanently forfeit those days and cannot use them for any other purpose

County boards retain existing authority to pay bonuses to employees for unused personal leave days accumulated during an employment term as an absenteeism reduction incentive
