Air rifles and rimfire rifles are permitted on school buses during transportation to or from school-sponsored shooting team events, on primary or secondary school grounds for shooting team purposes, and at school-sponsored shooting team functions

During the school day or outside of team events/practices, all air rifles, rimfire rifles, and ammunition must be locked in a location where students do not have access

Rifles and ammunition stored on school buses must be placed in locked cases in locations determined by the state or county transportation director

The bill amends existing law prohibiting deadly weapons on school premises by adding an explicit exception for air rifles and rimfire rifles used by school shooting teams

Effective July 10, 2025 (90 days after passage on April 11, 2025)
