Municipal and county planning commission members must have been West Virginia residents for three continuous years immediately preceding appointment and residents of the specific municipality or county for one year prior to appointment

At least three-fifths of municipal and county planning commission members must have been residents of that jurisdiction for at least three years prior to appointment

Members of multicounty, regional, and joint planning commissions must have been residents of the planning commission's jurisdiction for at least three years immediately preceding appointment

Current members who do not meet the new residency requirements cannot be grandfathered in and must leave the planning commission

Takes effect July 6, 2025 (90 days from passage on April 7, 2025)
