Members of the State Teachers Retirement System who serve as officers with a statewide professional teaching association will not be considered absent from service, allowing them to maintain retirement service credit during that time

Retirees who previously served as officers of statewide professional teaching associations while active members will have that service counted toward their retirement

Service credit for statewide professional teaching association officer positions is capped at a maximum of 10 years

Members or retirees claiming this service credit must pay double the amount they would have contributed in their regular teaching assignment for the period of absence

The provision only applies to individuals who were serving as officers of a statewide professional teaching association on or before January 1, 2024
