Personally identifiable information held by the Consolidated Public Retirement Board for all retirement system participants is now classified as confidential and exempt from public disclosure under West Virginia's Freedom of Information Act

Protected information includes Social Security numbers, account numbers, dates of birth, addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses, medical or disability information, and direct deposit information

Members, retirants, beneficiaries, alternate payees, and their authorized representatives retain the right to access their own personal information

The confidentiality protections are explicitly justified by increased risks of fraud and identity theft

Effective immediately upon passage on April 7, 2025
