Middle school students may opt for a supervised academic study hall instead of the required semester of physical education if they demonstrate participation in an average of 5+ hours weekly of school-sponsored or privately organized sports or physical activity

High school students may similarly substitute a study hall for the required physical education graduation credit by demonstrating 5+ hours weekly of outside physical activity

Students must provide written and signed documentation, affidavit, or other evidence showing both a history of and intent to continue the qualifying physical activity

Elementary school physical education requirements (30 minutes, 3 days per week) remain unchanged with no opt-out provision

Amends West Virginia Code §18-2-7a, which was originally enacted to combat childhood obesity through mandatory school physical activity
