Sheriffs' salaries would increase to 10% above the salaries of County Clerks and Circuit Clerks across all county classes in West Virginia.

For Class I counties, Sheriff salaries would rise from $56,793 to $75,132; for Class X counties, from $48,661 to $57,244.

The bill amends §7-7-4 of the West Virginia Code governing compensation of elected county officials.

Salary increases require State Auditor certification that counties have sufficient fiscal capacity to pay the higher wages plus related employment taxes.

Elected officials must file a written request with the county commission clerk to receive the increased salary.
