Salary increases for elected county officials take effect July 1, 2026, with amounts varying by county class (Class I through Class X based on population/assessed property value).

County commissioners would receive raises ranging from $28,785 (Class X) to $53,731 (Class I), representing approximately 18% increases over current 2022 rates.

Other elected officials (Sheriff, County Clerk, Circuit Clerk, Assessor, Prosecuting Attorney) would also receive increases, with Class I Prosecuting Attorneys reaching $140,433 and Class I Sheriffs/Assessors reaching $69,716.

Before receiving salary increases, the State Auditor must certify that the county's fiscal condition can support the higher salaries and related employment taxes.

Officials seeking the raise must file a written request with the county commission clerk prior to the effective date; those who fail to file remain at current salary levels until leaving office.
