Write-in candidates in West Virginia would be required to pay the same filing fees as regular candidates for the office they seek at the time they submit their certificate of announcement

An exemption allows candidates to file in forma pauperis (without fee) if their income and resources are insufficient to meet basic needs and their cash reserves do not exceed eligible limits

The bill amends §3-6-4a of the West Virginia Code governing write-in candidate filing requirements

Certification as an official write-in candidate now requires both a completed certificate of announcement and payment of the required fee
