Removes the $35,000 cap on homestead exemptions in bankruptcy proceedings, replacing it with an acreage-based limit of 1 acre in municipalities or 100 acres elsewhere for property used as a residence

Increases the general personal property exemption from $800 to $5,000, plus any unused portion of the homestead exemption

Adds a new protected category allowing debtors to exempt government payments that subsidize the adoption of a minor child

Eliminates the special $250,000 homestead exemption previously available to physicians with medical malpractice insurance facing bankruptcy due to malpractice judgments
