Salary increases for elected county officials effective July 1, 2026, covering county commissioners, sheriffs, county clerks, circuit clerks, assessors, and prosecuting attorneys across all 10 county classes.

County commissioner salaries would increase approximately 18% from current levels, with Class I commissioners rising from $45,535 to $53,731 and Class X commissioners rising from $24,394 to $28,785.

Other elected officials would see similar increases, with Class I prosecuting attorneys receiving the highest salary at $140,433 (up from $119,011) and Class I sheriffs/assessors at $69,716.

Salary increases require State Auditor certification that the county's fiscal condition can support the higher compensation and related employment taxes.

Elected officials must file a written request for the salary increase with the county clerk prior to the effective date to receive the higher compensation.
