County boards of education may employ or accept volunteer certified chaplains to provide support, services, and programs for students, staff, and parents

School chaplains are not required to meet state certification or licensing requirements that apply to professional educators and other school employees

Chaplains must submit to fingerprint-based state and federal background checks before beginning work, and boards cannot employ anyone registered or required to register as a sex offender or child predator

County school boards may employ or accept more than one chaplain per school

Chaplains receive immunity from civil liability for actions or statements made while providing services, except for conduct that is malicious, willful, and deliberately intended to cause harm, harass, or intimidate
