Jeff and Jim Kochenderfer are recognized as West Virginia's Outstanding Tree Farmers of the Year for their management of 223 acres of hardwood forestland in Randolph and Tucker counties since 1996

The brothers restored previously degraded forestland that had been high-graded and harvested to a 12-inch stump diameter in 1979, using science-based forest management practices

Both are professional foresters: Jim is a retired Research Forester at Fernow Experimental Forest in Parsons, and Jeff is a Silviculturalist with the Monongahela National Forest

Their management activities include access road improvement, timber harvesting, crop tree release, and hosting educational tours for woodland owners in cooperation with WVU Extension and the Society of American Foresters

The Senate directs the Clerk to forward a copy of this resolution to the Kochenderfers
