County clerks must take minutes during post-election ballot audits and submit both the audit results and minutes to the secretary of state at least one day before the state canvassing board meeting

County clerks must notify county chairmen of each political party with a candidate on the ballot, as well as all independent candidates, of the time and place of the audit

At least two electors from different political parties must be present during the audit to observe procedures and results; all observers must take the oath for election officials

If insufficient party representatives are available, the county clerk may appoint representatives from different political parties to meet observation requirements

Observers may register errors or objections to the audit with the county clerk, who must submit those statements and any responses to the secretary of state along with the audit results; effective July 1, 2026
