Registered sex offenders are barred from running for or being appointed to 16 categories of public office, including state legislature, statewide elected positions, county commissioners, mayors, school board trustees, and county sheriffs.

"Sex offender" is defined as any person currently registered on Wyoming's central registry of offenders under W.S. 7-19-301 through 7-19-310.

Election officials must refuse to certify any candidate found ineligible under this law, and any current officeholder who becomes disqualified will have their position declared vacant.

The law applies to persons elected or appointed on or after July 1, 2026.
