School district boards of trustees must develop cardiac emergency response plans for all schools, including charter schools, addressing sudden cardiac arrest incidents and integrating American Heart Association or other evidence-based standards

Automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) must be placed in every school with appropriate signage, kept in unlocked locations accessible within 3 minutes, maintained per manufacturer guidelines, and registered with local emergency medical providers

School nurses and appropriate personnel must obtain and maintain training in first aid, CPR, and AED use consistent with national emergency cardiovascular care guidelines

Separate athletic cardiac emergency response plans are required for schools with athletic programs, including AEDs at each athletic venue, annual rehearsals of procedures, and mandatory training for all coaches

$50,000 is appropriated from the public school foundation program account for school years 2026-2027 and 2027-2028, with reimbursement priority given to districts with higher percentages of free/reduced lunch eligible students
