Building or structure owners in Wyoming cities, towns, and counties may hire third party inspectors at their own expense to perform building permit inspections instead of using local government inspectors

Qualified third party inspectors must be licensed architects, licensed professional engineers, or persons certified by the International Code Council or the local enforcement authority, and cannot have conflicts of interest with the project being inspected

Third party inspectors must maintain liability insurance of at least $1,000,000 per claim and submit inspection reports to local enforcement authorities by established deadlines

Final inspections for certificates of occupancy and any state-required inspections are excluded and must still be performed by local enforcement authorities

Effective July 1, 2026, applying to building permit applications filed on or after that date
